New club member Paul Robbins Report.

Hi all just to give you all a little insight about me. I am 43 years old and live in Tredegar Gwent I work as the parts manager at The Trade Centre Wales (Neath Branch)
I purchased a Historic Mk2 Escort BDG from Terry Brown late 2016 and started rallying in 2017 spending a year getting used to the car (as I never done any rallying before) doing single stage venues such as Pembrey, Brawdy, and the Circuit of Anglesey. Since I was a young kid my aim was always Epynt and with the help from Terry Brown and Den Golding (who has been teaching me driving on pace notes) I had my first taste of Epynt entering the Tour early this year. Unfortunately I only managed 4 stages before problems with the car caused me to retire after stage 4. Being my first event I was very nervous and my legs were still shaking at the end of Burma road,so I put an entry in for Dixies Historic Challenge and couldn’t wait to have another go!.
I hoped for dry weather on the Sunday, and luckily when we got to set up early that morning the weather looked like it was going to be kind to us, the car was running sweet and we were looking forward to getting out on the stages.
Through the 1st stage I realised that we had got tyre choice right and the car was turning in and gripping well although there was a problem with the clutch pedal and I was struggling to change down gears, looking at our times later that morning I had dropped over 20 seconds between stages 1 & 2 compared to 3 & 4. Kenny( Kenny owen co driver) and I kept going and everything felt good with no issues (or no moments lol)with my main aim was just to finish the rally, but I knew that if I kept things tidy I could win my class. We got to the end of the last stage and I was so happy that I not only finished but won my class. I got back to service with a huge smile on my face Den and Terry and all the service boys came over to congratulate me on winning my class, and then Den said we had also come 2nd Overall in the Historics and was only 13 seconds off winning the historic event outright.
As you can image this made me feel 10ft tall. I have built up a great friendship with Terry and Den and Sunday would never have been possible without Terry helping me with the car and Den teaching me how to drive on notes, so I would really like to give them a very special thank you for all that they've done for me,Thank You both.

Regards Paul
